Dark Horse Consulting : Accessible Toronto Websites & Programming

Services

Smart websites, Smarter training.

Web Applications

Want a smarter website? Web design is my passion. I build sites ranging from simple “brochure” styles sites, to complex, database driven membership powered applications. If you’re like most people, you’re probably more interested in a selected portfolio than anything I could write here. Want to learn a bit more about our philosophy, then read on!

I believe very strongly in user empowerment, not designer control. Want to throw buzz-words around, I can do that*, but I’ve never sold a website by using a bunch of impressive acronyms! What sets me apart is my passion. At heart, I’m one of those strange people who equally enjoys both the “front-end” work of a web application, and the “back-end” work of the server. I spend most of my time working with XHTML, PHP, Flash, XML and Javascript, although much of my focus lately has been on the PHP framework CodeIgniter, and the content management system, ExpressionEngine.

* Need more buzzwords? I love AJAX and unobtrusive scripting, I believe in WAI compliant sites and valid xhtml code. That’s sexy!

Training

Want to know the secret behind Dark Horse Consulting? Training. I started this company on offering web design and programming training, and its probably still my first love. A full half of all the work I do is develop courses, and deliver training.

I’ve developed and remain the principal instructor of 2 full time, university/college web design programs. While much of my instructing has been at Universities and Colleges, I’ve also taught for Provincial and Federal governments, hospitals, and of course corporate training. I focus on web design, and web related programming. You want someone to show you modern web techniques and build with open standards, I’m your man. You want a comprehensive start to finish program starting from basics and building up into advanced content-management? Drop me a line.

In 2002, I had the privilege of winning “Instructor of the Year” for Computer Specializations in the Computer Studies program at Seneca College; and 2004 I was fortunate enough to be awarded the prestigious “Excellence in Teaching” award in part-time studies at McMaster University.

The training I offer is fun and focused. If you’d like to discuss training, don’t hesitate to contact me.
